Master the Business of Law
The
LEGAL
MBA
Law firms are full of highly driven, talented and intelligent lawyers and business services professionals. Both authors; James Markham and Darren Mee, have had the pleasure of working with exceptionally talented individuals within law firms over the last two decades.
But whilst most are talented in the practice of law, it is perhaps fair to say that there is a general lack of understanding of the business of law.
Law school doesn’t prepare lawyers to run a successful legal business. And traditional MBA programmes aren’t tailored to the unique needs of complex professional service firms, with Marketing modules typically focused on major, multinational brands; and Operations modules on widgets moving down a production line.
This is precisely why we created The Legal MBA.
The Legal MBA provides you with an understanding of the key business concepts you’d learn from a traditional MBA curriculum, specifically tailored to meet the needs of busy lawyers and business services teams working in a law firm. We cover personal goal setting, strategy, marketing, service propositions and pricing, operations, personal effectiveness, law firm finances, and managing and leading a team.
By completing either the self-study Workbook or taught Academy programme, you will have gained:

-
Defined goals (both business and personal)
-
A clear business unit strategy for your practice area or industry/sector group
-
A defined target market
-
Clearly articulated service propositions
-
A value ladder of services
-
A target team shape and size
-
Improved pricing knowledge
-
An end-to-end map of core processes
-
A financial model for your practice area or industry/sector group
-
A deeper understanding of law firm finances
-
Insights on how to grow your practice area and win new clients
-
Practical tips to improve profitability at a departmental, client and matter level
-
Strategies for effective delegation and personal effectiveness
-
Information and insights on how to manage and lead a team
To meet a range of learning preferences and budgeted, we offer three options to help you master the business of law.
