CORE TOPICS
To be fully effective in their role, Partners need a firm grasp of the following topics, and the connections between them:
Goal Setting and Strategy
Appreciate the difference between goals, objectives, strategies and tactics. Create SMART goals to guide your Mini-MBA Action Plan.
At the end of the programme, we expect delegates to have completed a short Action Plan summarising the commercial actions they intend to take.
We also offer Group Accountability Coaching to help put the Action Plans into practice after the Legal Mini-MBA.

Who is The Legal Mini-MBA for?
The Legal Mini-MBA is designed for partners and aspiring partners. Some firms have offered The Legal Mini-MBA to their newly promoted partners, Heads of Departments and/or those identified as ‘Top Talent’. Others have put all of their partners through the programme.
What problem does it solve?
As lawyers become more senior, alongside their deep technical specialism, they are increasingly expected to have knowledge of a broad range of topics such as finance, strategy, marketing, pricing, operations, service design, etc. Traditional MBA programmes serve this broad educational need well. However, they can cost 5 or 6 figures, requiring many hours of study over multiple years. Examples and case studies are rarely applicable to the business of a law firm. The Legal Mini-MBA distils the core components of a traditional MBA into a programme that is highly relevant to senior practising lawyers and fits seemlessly into their busy schedules.
What are the learning objectives?
The programme aims to develop strategic, commercial capability and help delegates master the business of law. More detailed learning objectives can be found on pages 8 and 9 of our course brochure, a copy of which can be requested below.
What is the output from the programme?
Delegates complete a short one to two page Legal Mini-MBA Action Plan, committing them to the short term tactics and long term strategies they will implement following the programme. This is designed to encourage implementation of actions, behavioural change and accountability reinforced through existing line management structures. We also offer optional Group Accountability Coaching to help embed the Action Plans.
How does it work?
The 12 week programme is built around 6 x 90 minute remote, interactive sessions to groups of up to 15 senior lawyers from your firm. Alongside the live sessions, delegates receive The Legal MBA Essentials book, an exercise Workbook and on-demand eLearning to help them apply the theory to their own legal practice.
Do you offer The Legal Mini-MBA to individuals?
Our programme is designed for cohorts of 8 to 15 senior lawyers. If you are an individual from a smaller law firm and are interested in joining a mixed cohort with individuals from other firms, please provide your email below and we'll let you know when we're next running a cohort for individuals.
